How wonderful that you can look at this beautiful, proud bird every day.
Did you know that in 2016 the Black-tailed Godwit was chosen by the Dutch public as the national bird. But the Black-tailed Godwit is having a hard time. Where the farm still leaves room for nature, the Black-tailed Godwit thrives.
Nowhere in Europe do so many black-tailed godwits breed as in the Netherlands. 90% of the black-tailed godwits in north-west Europe breed in the Netherlands. This makes the Netherlands the most important European black-tailed godwit country. This also means that if the Netherlands fails to preserve the black-tailed godwit, the future of this bird species is uncertain.
The Black-tailed Godwit breeds in open grasslands in the lowlands of the country. The highest densities occur on moist to wet clay and peat soils, with concentrations in Friesland, the Kop van Overijssel, North Holland north of the North Sea Canal and the Groene Hart.
A nice spot for the Metalbird Curlew
Give this Black-tailed Godwit, made of corten steel, a nice spot somewhere in the garden and, if possible, preferably a little "hidden" in the grass!
Corten steel is...
Steel that gets a beautiful rusty brown layer. The corrosion starts immediately when the godwit comes into contact with the outside air. The layer also protects against further rusting, which means the godwit will last a lifetime.
- Easy to assemble with a few taps of the hammer (drill a hole in hard wood first)
- Made of 3 mm thick, 'weather-resistant' Corten steel® for a beautiful patina that changes with the seasons.
- 45 cm high and 37 cm wide (including the branch/tip)
