Because of its characteristic call it is also called "whistling duck". On an autumn or winter evening their funny whistling call can be heard when the wigeons fly over: on their way south or to the rich grasslands around residential areas, to eat their bellies full. It sounds like whistling rubber ducks; the sound you hear when you squeeze such a yellow rubber duck.
